What I did to stop getting Canker Sores & Mouth Ulcers

When I was growing up I constantly had canker sores. I was told all sorts of things that might be causing them. Some of the suggested causes were stomach acid, illness, allergies...etc. the list goes on. It seemed that no matter what I did they got worse and no better. I started getting them in giant clusters that had me worried about mouth cancer at one point. I had them at the back of my tongue which made it hard to eat and talk. Even though they did not cause an illness that needed attention, they were very painful and they caused me stress. So quite by accident I found my own cure.

I am not saying this will work for anyone else, as I have not tested this on anyone except myself. But if you suffer from mouth ulcers I would give it a try as it may work for you too. I would love to see comments from anyone who tries this. So what is it that I changed. I switched toothpaste brands. I grew up using Crest toothpaste and one day I decided to try Arm & Hammer toothpaste. Just to assure you I have no affiliation with any of these companies. My testimonial is strictly my own experience. It just that the difference was so dramatic.

When I started using Arm & Hammer toothpaste my mouth ulcers went away. I mean totally, something I had dealt with my whole life was just immediately gone. So if you have ever had canker sores you know what I am talking about when I say they are painful. Needless to say I have not been tempted to go back to Crest or Colgate. The few times I have used the other brands of toothpaste, like when I travelled and forgot the toothpaste when I was packing. Immediately after using the most popular toothpastes I again had a few canker sores. This has convinced me that despite the taste of Arm & Hammer toothpaste, which you get used to, I am not willing to use toothpaste that gives me mouth ulcers.

I really hope this works for anyone else out there that happens to get mouth sores too. It was just such an easy solution and it only cost me a couple of dollars. The other benefit to using this toothpaste is that when I go to the dentist, I no longer require major treatments of scaling by the dental hygienist. The baking soda cleans my teeth and does not leave residue that builds up causing a need for periodontal debridement (scaling & root planing. This was one change that was very worth it. Not only that but it makes a great cleaner for stains and spills that need a little abrasion.  See my post about cleaning up from a wax spill.

I have found it to be of great benefit for my mouth and my stress level to use baking soda toothpaste. It is something you have to acquire a taste for, but it is worth the change.

  1. Handy treatments like baking soda and dilute alum solution do help with relieving pain from canker sores
